Introducing Raptive’s Discover Workbook: A clearer path to audience growth beyond traditional search
The way people find content is changing.
Traditional Google Search remains an important source of traffic, but readers are increasingly discovering content through a broader mix of search results, personalized feeds, social platforms, and AI-powered experiences.
For creators and publishers, building a sustainable audience now means understanding where new opportunities are emerging and developing more ways to reach readers.
Google Discover is one of those opportunities. It surfaces content based on a reader’s interests, creating another path to visibility even when someone is not actively searching for a keyword or asking a question.
But Discover can be difficult to understand. Performance can shift quickly, and a change in clicks rarely points to one clear cause. You need more than a traffic total to determine whether a change is connected to visibility, click-through performance, publishing activity, or the content itself.
That’s why Raptive built the Discover Workbook, a new dashboard tool that helps you turn your site’s Google Discover data into clearer, more actionable insights.
The Discover Workbook connects publishing activity, visibility, click-through performance, and content patterns in one place. It gives you a repeatable way to investigate performance changes, identify what deserves a closer look, and make more informed content decisions.
A growing opportunity that still needs context
Across the Raptive network, Google Discover drives around one billion clicks each year, making it a meaningful audience opportunity for creators and publishers.
Google is also investing in the feed. In February 2026, it launched its first core update, specifically focused on Discover. The update was designed to reduce sensational content and clickbait while surfacing more locally relevant, in-depth, original, and timely content from sites with expertise in specific topics.
After the update, Raptive’s SEO team analyzed performance across the network and found meaningful Discover click growth in several categories:
- Travel sites grew 72%
- News sites grew 34%
- Smaller niche sites across verticals grew 26%
These results reinforce the opportunity, but network-wide trends can only tell part of the story. They cannot explain why an individual publisher’s performance changed or what that publisher should review next. The Discover Workbook brings that analysis down to the site level.
It combines Raptive’s network-wide expertise with each publisher’s own data, helping turn a broad question like “Why did my Discover traffic decline?” into a more focused editorial decision.
Move beyond the traffic total
Discover performance is multifaceted, and understanding your unique growth opportunities requires nuanced data to tell you a complete story. Maybe your content isn’t visible enough, or maybe you’re appearing in-feed, but just not earning clicks. A shift could also reflect changes in publishing volume, seasonality, topics, titles, images, contributors, or other content patterns.
The Discover Workbook helps you separate those signals and explore questions such as:
- Why isn’t new content gaining traction? See whether recently published pages are earning visibility and how they compare with other content on your site.
- Why aren’t visible pages earning more clicks? Compare high-impression pages and identify patterns across topics, titles, images, framing, and formats.
- What should we publish or test next? Review patterns across topics, contributors, publication timing, titles, images, and groups of content before deciding which ideas to build on.
Five connected views support that analysis:
- Scorecard provides a high-level view of your performance.
- Visibility shows whether content is being surfaced in Discover.
- Conversion helps you evaluate whether visible pages are earning clicks.
- Author Insights compares publishing activity and performance by contributor.
- Segment Builder lets you compare two groups of pages side by side.
Together, these views help you identify which signals deserve your attention without having to recreate the analysis across disconnected reports.
The Discover Workbook doesn’t replace editorial judgment, predict what Google will surface, or guarantee that a page will appear in Discover. It organizes your site’s data so you can pair performance trends with what you already know about your content, audience, and publishing strategy.
Early active users saw stronger Discover growth
Compared to sites that had access to Discover Workbook but hadn’t yet used the tool, early Workbook users saw stronger growth during the analysis period.
- Active sites saw 4.2x greater Discover click growth than inactive sites
- Active sites experienced more than 4x the Discover click growth of inactive sites
- Active sites achieved 241 percentage points more Discover click growth than inactive sites
