Erin Sellin
Dinners, Dishes, and Desserts
Hi, I’m Erin Sellin from the blog Dinners, Dishes, and Desserts.
I started my blog in 2011 after my son started Kindergarten. I was a stay-at-home mom up until that point and needed something to do that would allow me to still be home when he was home. Blogging gave me the chance to be there for him before and after school, during breaks, attend sporting events and activities as well as volunteer in his classroom through his entire childhood.
One of the best parts of my job is getting to interact and “meet” people from around the world. I recently received an email from someone in New Zealand saying how much they appreciated my recipes, used them regularly, and how they brought their family together. Food bonds people together even when you live on the other side of the world.
The whole point of my blog is to bring people together. Everyone is busy and running in a million different directions, I am trying to show people you can still have time together as a family, around the table and have that bond together. Schedules can be busy but making dinner and spending uninterrupted time as a family can be possible.
With the changes in Google search as well as AI this could all be in jeopardy. AI can be a great tool, but when it is replacing content creators it can be detrimental. Not only are we losing the connections that bring the world together, but we are also potentially hurting creators and their families. We have been creating content for over a decade and to have a computer just pull a recipe out of thin air, that isn’t tested, doesn’t necessarily even work, and be put at the top search result is dangerous. Users can’t always tell the difference, and they trust what they see. So if a recipe says it is the best they will believe it, and could spend time and money on something that doesn’t work.
If people start to not trust the search results or what they see on google, we all lose. Content creators put their heart and soul into creating worthy content for people. And people have come to expect that level of results when they search. Taking that away from them and replacing content creators is doing a great disservice to the internet.
