Growing up in a very traditional Korean household, I was meant to be 3 things – a lawyer, a dentist, or a doctor. I went to UCLA as a pre-med student, then off to USC to obtain a Masters degree in Public Health. But during my grad school studies at USC in 2011, a classmate told me about her friend who had a food blog.
At the time, this was a very new industry. We’re talking about a time where there was no social media. I quickly created a website on Tumblr and started snapping some not-so-great looking photos, documenting recipes I’ve been making at home, from baked goods to quick dinners. I had maybe 2-3 readers, which were basically friends. I made about $0.60 a month.
From there, I was able to meet so many people both online as well as food blogging conferences as this industry began to take off. I was also able to connect with so many readers who loved my quick dinner recipes.
Fast forward to 2024 and now I have a complete team – a lead food stylist, an assistant food stylist, two photographers, a video team, and an operations manager. Together, we test and retest so many recipes making sure they are perfect before we publish them out to the world.
This website was a hobby that became a full-time job that I love so dearly much, exploring new recipes in the kitchen every single day. Being able to share this with everyone is the most special job I could have ever dreamed of.
