The Recipe Rebel
My name is Ashley Fehr and I have been running The Recipe Rebel for more than 10 years now.
Before starting a web site to share my recipes, I was a high school teacher. I started my web site when my oldest daughter was 2, and it’s given me the chance to pursue my passions of food and photography while having more time to spend with my family.
I always loved trying new recipes and putting my own spin on them. In fact, I couldn’t seem to leave any recipe without my own personal touch, hence The Recipe Rebel was born.
While it’s become our family business, over the last decade I’ve had the pleasure of working with other small businesses and employing creators and contractors all over the world so they can do what they love and provide for their families.
There’s more to it than just providing recipes.
It’s not hard to understand the important part that food plays in all of our cultures. Creating and sharing food with family, friends, loved ones, and new acquaintances is an experience that bonds us like nothing else.
The recipes I’ve tested and loved and shared on my web site have become the recipes that people are sharing on their dining tables, at their special occasions, at school bake sales and birthday parties.
Bringing people to the table to gather over a meal is the reason I love creating recipes, and nothing excites me more than comments from readers, sharing how everyone loved whatever they cooked up.
A reader recently shared, “I try, but I’m not a great cook. My toddler likes my food – my husband not so much! I made this for dinner last night and he said “This is the best thing you’ve ever made!” […]. So thank you for this recipe that has my husband finally enjoying one of my meals after 6 years of marriage!”
I do a happy dance inside every time someone makes a recipe and loves it.
With AI becoming more accessible and capable at cranking out untested recipes and fake food photos at an alarming rate, there are lots of people who will take advantage of it. People who just want to make a quick buck and don’t care if a recipe works or not, who don’t care if real people in real kitchens are wasting money on ingredients that can’t amount to anything worth eating.
Who won’t care about ruining family dinners, birthday parties, or being the last brownie standing at the school bake sale.
There are plenty of ways that advancing technology and AI can be used for good, but replacing creators sharing tried and true recipes and reliable information from firsthand sources with computer-generated nonsense is not in anyone’s best interest.
